| A community may be defined by people sharing
common characteristics or interests. An information community is defined by information resources having common characteristics, or of interest to a community. An information community may be formal or informal, of long-standing or as fresh as the latest entertainment event or natural crisis. Information communities use many communication technologies--newspapers, letters, bulletin boards, e-mail, Web sites, etc. Any information resource can be part of many information communities. The organizers of an information community choose what to include. ASF provides tools for organizers of information communities. It focuses on making information communities from existing resources--resources typically managed for other reasons entirely! |
