Information Gathering

Digital information resources on networks can be gathered automatically using the ASF.

A "gatherer" navigates the network using hyperlinks or directories.

Contents of the information resources are indexed for searching by an "indexer".

Optionally, each resource or collection of resources is characterized in a "locator record".

A "search engine" supports local, distributed, or referral search across indexed resources and locator records.
